Benji is an adorable 4-year-old, 8 lb Pekingese/Chihuahua mix (our best guess!) who is learning that there’s a whole big world outside just waiting for him.

Benji came to us from a hoarding situation, so many of the things most dogs take for granted are completely new to him. New people, new places and unfamiliar sounds can be a little scary. He can be shy and nervous when meeting new people, but he is not aggressive—he just needs time, patience and a gentle approach while he learns that he is safe.

Benji is great with other dogs and may benefit from having a friendly, confident canine companion to help show him the ropes. He is not yet house trained, but he is working on it and will need a family willing to continue helping him learn.

Because Benji is still gaining confidence, we feel a quieter home would be best. No young children, please; respectful kids ages 10+ should be fine.

And then there are those eyes! Yes, Benji’s adorable little eyes sometimes seem to have their own ideas about which direction they want to look—and we think it just adds to his one-of-a-kind charm.

Benji isn’t looking for someone to rush him. He’s looking for someone who will celebrate the little victories—the first time he approaches for affection, the first new experience that doesn’t seem quite so scary, and the moment he realizes that he’s finally home.

Underneath that shy exterior is a sweet little guy who just needs someone willing to give him the time and love he deserves.
